Everyone wants to know about SEO

I don’t think I’ve spoken to a client ever that said, “Nah, I don’t need SEO. It’s not for me.” Why is that you say? Because everyone wants to know about SEO. Some don’t know what it is, Search Engine Optimization, and some hire people to do their SEO but have no clue what they are actually doing. So here I’m going to break down some simple things you should know about SEO.

On Page vs. Off Page

This is a term you may have heard before. The simplest way to explain it is this. On page is what they do to your website. This is most likely the Yoast SEO plugin for you WordPress users. This is where you add your focus key word and it tells you if the post is good to go.

Off page is what they do to other people’s websites. So maybe they submitted your site to a directory or added a backlink. Those are changes on other people’s websites that are positively effecting your rank in Google. How? Because of that crazy elusive Google algorithm that gets your site in their search results when people look for you.

Google Webmasters

If you don’t do anything for SEO, please at least set up a Google Analytics code and submit your site to Google Webmasters. I beg you. It’s so simple. If you are using WordPress again a simple plugin will make this even easier for you. By submitting your sites to Google, you are effectively telling them to not only include you but to keep an eye on your site so it will be indexed. Note you will need to also submit a site map to Google Webmasters.

Content is Currency

While yes this is the name of the book I’m reading right now, it is also true. Content is Currency. At least to Google. They not only want you submitting new posts consistently, they also want to be very specific about those posts. They should include the following:

  1. alt tags on images
  2. a category
  3. tags
  4. headings
  5. images and media

If you are not including these things in your blog posts, start doing so. Google will thank you for it. Also, you want to work on getting to a post a day. Believe I know how hard it is to write a blog post everyday and do all the other things you need to do but believe me your traffic will sky rocket if you do!

That’s why I built my SEO Checklist. This will literally show you EVERYTHING you need to do to get your site on Google.

If you have a website, you need this. This checklist will show you just what you need to do to get your page on Google, attract more subscribers and more customers.
