Today, I see so many marketers out there that know what they need to do to market their website. They just need to learn how to do it. They don’t want to pay someone thousands of dollars to do it for them and then explain things in a language they can’t even understand. They want to learn it for themselves. They are smart. They are super heroes conquering the small business world everyday. If you show them, they will come. Here are my reasons why its better to learn and do it yourself then to have others do it for you.
It’s your house
I don’t know about you but I can’t have people clean my house. They never do it right. They use the wrong soap or the wrong sponge or they put things back in the place and then I just end up having to do it all over again myself anyways. My business is kind of the same thing. Don’t get me wrong. I have the most wonder VA ever. She is an incredibly valuable addition to my business and helps me get things done that I would never be able to do on my own. But I don’t just hand my business over to her. When you run an online business you need to learn it all.
Always Be Learning
I am a firm believer that you should always be learning. Every night before bed I read a bit of something. Right now I am reading Content is Currency. Before that it was the E-Myth. I’m already a successful business owner and a digital marketer so why do I need to be reading books that teach me about running a small business or digital marketing strategies??? Because I am always learning new ways of doing things. And then I pass them on to my clients and my members. This way they are always learning as well!
I don’t like be talked to
When my husband and I remodeled our house last year, I heard a lot of funny words in Italian that I didn’t understand. Honestly I didn’t understand them in English either that well. I mean I know what sub flooring is and I get why reflecting bricks for the fireplace are soooo expensive. But now a year later when we are finding a bunch of little tiny errors that need to be fixed, I kind of wish I had known some of this stuff back when they were doing the work. This way I would have known to ask them to lay the flooring in the main bathroom instead of accepting their excuse as to why they couldn’t (aka didn’t want to) and my husband wouldn’t be laying down tile now.
I have this same issue with my clients. I want to explain to them about funnels. I want them to know why the autoresponder series is so important which means they need to know what a funnel and an autoresponder series are in order to do so. I need them to know why their about page content is so crucial to their site.
Do you maybe wish you knew a little bit more of the tech side of how to grow your business online? You know like how to add that embed code from YouTube. Or how to create a retargeting pixel for Facebook. Maybe you’re paying other people to do this stuff but you have no idea why you even need it or what it is. Seriously who calls it a retargeting pixel? That sounds way too much like Disney for me.
