Spoiler Alert!!! The answer is Yes. If you want to rank higher in Google, WordPress is the best platform to use. It will allow you to integrate with other services like Pinterest and Google Webmaster with ease. The geeky answer here is that WordPress coding is done in a way that Google LOVES! Which means sites that are built on WordPress will rank higher. I know this because about 70% of the websites that we create each year are people who started their website on one platform and eventually wanted to move to WordPress. They all have their reasons but the one answer that they always have in common is SEO.
Every week, I have an inbox flooded with inquiries about whether or not WordPress is the best platform for a website. Maybe they are on Squarespace or Wix and thinking about switching. Or maybe they are just starting out and a bit scared of all the WordPress does.
This is what happened to Jessica. She started her site on Wix and it worked ok but it wasn’t anywhere near her dream website. It didn’t load quickly. It was ranked on page 25 for her keywords. It wouldn’t integrate with Pinterest. And the design was miles away from what she wanted. She knew if she wanted to create courses she wouldn’t be able to do it on her website but she would have to pay a monthly fee to a service like Teachable which was not what she wanted.
She knew she could hunker down and build her website on WordPress. But oh the tech! Who could navigate through all those weird terms like widgets and plugins? And what’s a permalink? It was just too much to learn for her. Between her family, her full-time job, and you know that little thing called life, there was no way she was going to be able to build her website on WordPress even though she knew it was the best platform for her.
It was just around that time that we met. I didn’t know it then but I would soon become her “Website Angel”. After several planning sessions for her website, we both decided it would be best for her if we went ahead and built her website for her. It took about 3 months of writing content and weekly meetings and big decisions, but in the end, we built her dream website. It looked the way she wanted it to look. It featured her podcast, her free members’ area, her courses, and all of her amazing blog posts. And it was all connected to her CRM. Automation dreams come true!!!! We spent another few meetings so she felt comfortable using her website and she was ready.
Fast forward to today. It’s two years later. She is ranking on the first page of Google for her keywords. She has new sign-ups every day to her website. She built out more courses that she had been dreaming of building. She has an amazing podcast on iTunes. And all on the platform she wanted.
